Russia is transferring military equipment to Crimea from the Leningrad region: details of the relocation.
Russians are transferring military equipment to Crimea from the Moscow and Leningrad military districts. Additionally, each truck and fuel tanker heading to the occupied peninsula is equipped with anti-drone protection.
Journalists from the 'Crimean Wind' channel report that residents of Simferopol and Dzhankoy are noticing military trucks of the Russian Armed Forces with the number '50' on their military plates, which marks the former Western Military District of Russia (now reorganized into the Leningrad and Moscow districts). Moreover, fuel tankers with similar license plates have been seen in Inkerman and Sevastopol.
The vehicles are new, indicating that the Russians are preparing for a potential attack from the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It is noted that metal canopies known as 'mangals' are mounted on top of the tanks and cabs to protect the equipment from drones.
Which districts the equipment is from
The Western Military District was a military operational-strategic formation that existed from 2010 to 2023. Its headquarters was located in Saint Petersburg.
In 2024, this formation was disbanded — the Leningrad (headquartered in Saint Petersburg) and Moscow (headquartered in Moscow) military districts were created again in its territory.
Recall that we recently reported on the destruction of radars in Crimea. And also on whether domes protect Russian military equipment from drones.
Reports of the transfer of military equipment to Crimea from the Moscow and Leningrad military districts are confirmed by local residents' testimonies and the presence of anti-drone protection on the vehicles. Such actions indicate an increasing tension in the region.Read also
