Strait of Hormuz Under U.S. Control

According to Espreso.tv: Former U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that the United States now holds authority over the Strait of Hormuz and insists on receiving compensation for maintaining that control. He also argued that Washington should have addressed the Iranian threat decades earlier, stating:

“The U.S. should have dealt with the Iranian threat 47 years ago”
These remarks were made during an appearance on the Fox & Friends television program.

Trump further confirmed that the U.S. would retain command of the strait, asserting:

“We are taking control of the strait. They have nothing.”
He added that the U.S. would 'likely manage it' and stressed the need for compensation in return for this oversight.

U.S.-Iran Negotiations

Amid these statements, diplomatic talks between the U.S. and Iran concerning Tehran's nuclear program continue. Iranian leaders recently held an 11-hour session as part of these negotiations. The previous round of talks concluded on June 17 with the signing of a memorandum. On July 1, Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff conducted discussions in Qatar. However, on July 7, the U.S. launched new strikes against Iran and reinstated sanctions on Iranian oil sales.

On July 13, the price of a barrel of Brent crude stood at $79.3, reflecting the potential impact of these developments on global energy markets. Trump emphasizes the strategic importance of controlling these vital waters and maintaining an assertive policy toward Iran, citing U.S. security and worldwide economic interests.

Trump's statements underscore the ongoing tension in U.S.-Iran relations, which remains a key factor in global politics and economics. Control over the Strait of Hormuz—through which a substantial portion of the world’s oil exports transit—is strategically crucial not only for the United States but also for international markets. With sanctions being reimposed and active nuclear negotiations in progress, the situation will continue to draw close attention from the global community.
