The President of Poland, Karol Nafrowski, confirmed this decision after the Russian drone incursion on Wednesday, which served as the basis for activating NATO's Article 4.
On Saturday, NATO F-16 fighter jets participated in monitoring the situation after Putin sent drones into Romanian airspace during a renewed attack on Ukraine.
NATO's unpredictable actions
This move marked the first instance where a member of the defensive alliance has fired since the onset of the war in Ukraine.
Although details of Operation Eastern Sentinel remain classified, it involves deploying NATO troops on Polish territory.
On Saturday, the Romanian Ministry of Defense reported that a drone crossed their border as a result of Moscow's large-scale attack on Ukraine.
Zelensky stated that the incursion was not a coincidence and warned the West that this is 'an obvious expansion of the war by Russia'.
Bucharest deployed two F-16s to monitor the situation after the incursions, calling it 'a new challenge' for Black Sea security.
The Ministry of Defense noted that it 'detected a drone in national airspace' and monitored it until it disappeared from radar.
They added: 'Such incidents indicate Russia's disregard for international law'.
NATO's swift response
NATO acted quickly after the organization pledged to defend 'every inch' of allied territory at the beginning of the week.
The EU's foreign policy chief, Kasia Kallas, called Russia's actions an 'irresponsible' threat to security.
She stated: 'The violation of Romanian airspace by Russian drones is yet another unacceptable breach of a EU member state’s sovereignty.'
'This reckless escalation threatens regional security. We stand in solidarity with Romania.'
Following the Polish incursion, Prime Minister Donald Tusk revealed that 19 Russian drones crossed the border during an attack on western Ukraine, bringing the country closer to 'a conflict akin to World War II'.
He noted that four of them were shot down by NATO fighters, reportedly arriving from Poland, Italy, the Netherlands, and the USA; it was later reported that seven drones were found on the ground.

Poland also reaffirmed on Saturday that it sent helicopters and planes to counter Russian drones near the border.
Military forces declared on X that they are on 'highest alert' alongside allied aircraft.
Tusk later noted that the alert was lifted but warned: 'We must remain vigilant.'
He urged NATO: 'Don't wait for dozens of 'shaheds' [drones] and ballistic missiles to finally make a decision.'
In response to Russia's ongoing aggression and threats against NATO, U.S. President Donald Trump promised to impose 'serious sanctions on Russia.'
He announced on social media platform Truth Social that he will punish Putin on the condition that all NATO countries agree to stop buying oil from the tyrant's regime.
Promising to remain steadfast in his commitment to ending the war in Ukraine, Trump added: 'I am ready to 'go' when you are. Just say when.'
