According to ТСН: The position of US President Donald Trump during negotiations raises concerns, as he often changes his mind.

This opinion was expressed by political scientist Igor Reiterovich.

Factors complicating negotiations

According to the expert, several circumstances may complicate or even derail the negotiation process.

“In addition to Putin's inflexibility and ultimatum-style approach, we are also seeing other problems. In particular, there are simply inadequate statements from representatives of the Russian leadership,”

he noted.

Threat from the US

Reiterovich believes that the behavior of the US president may also seriously affect the course of negotiations.

“I think that the ambiguous position of Donald Trump could hinder the normal flow of negotiations. Clearly, he has temporarily abandoned his promises to intensify pressure on Putin,”

the political scientist explained.

He also emphasized that Trump had previously spoken about his intention to respond firmly to Russia's delays in negotiations, but currently, these signals have become less clear.

“Such an unclear position from Donald Trump is a major threat. In my opinion, this is even more dangerous than Putin's inflexibility,”

the expert stressed.

Reiterovich noted that the actions of the Russian dictator are more predictable, unlike the decisions of the American president.

“At least we understand what to expect from Putin,”

he emphasized.

Moreover, according to the political scientist, Donald Trump could significantly change his rhetoric at any moment.

“His ambiguous and inconsistent position introduces a very large element of unpredictability into the negotiations. Trump may again start blaming Ukraine for the war not ending,”

the expert added.

Earlier, the Kremlin noted that Trump was “shocked” by the strikes on Putin's residence and threatened to reconsider its position.

It was also reported that after meeting with Trump, Zelensky stated about 90% readiness of the peace plan, but two important issues remain unresolved.
