NATO Official Explained Why North Korea Sent Troops to Ukraine.
The head of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Gerry Connolly, stated that the participation of North Korean army soldiers in the war in Ukraine on the side of Russia indicates Russia's weakness. He believes that North Korea wants to gain combat experience, and Russia uses their soldiers to strengthen its position in the conflict. Connolly also believes that the involvement of North Korean troops indicates Russia's weakness in front of Ukraine.
He noted that North Korea lost combat experience after the Korean War, which took place 70 years ago, and therefore it agrees to fight in Ukraine. Furthermore, he noted that in the past, Russia helped North Korea with armaments, but now this role is being performed by China. These facts indicate a decrease in influence and an increase in vulnerability for Russia.
The US expressed concern over the possible involvement of North Korean military personnel on the side of Russia, but there is currently no confirmation of this data. South Korea also takes this situation very seriously and considers the deployment of DPRK troops to Ukraine a threat to the security of the international community.
Approximately 11 thousand infantry soldiers from North Korea are located in the east of Russia, preparing for combat operations in Ukraine. US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin did not confirm these data but noted that such a move by the DPRK would cause concern if it turned out to be true.
