Massive Blaze Hits Kroksstadelva
According to UATV: A devastating wildfire swept through the settlement of Kroksstadelva in the Norwegian municipality of Drammen on July 17, 2023, destroying more than 100 residential buildings and forcing the evacuation of approximately 400 people. Emergency crews are still working to extinguish remaining hotspots and ensure the safety of residents.
By July 18, 2023, authorities began allowing residents in safe zones to return home. Two individuals were hospitalized for smoke inhalation during the firefighting efforts. Fire departments from several municipalities, including Oslo, Asker, and Bærum, joined the operation, supported by six firefighting helicopters.
Coordinated Response and Support for Victims
A crisis management center has been set up in Drammen, where local officials are coordinating rescue operations and recovery efforts. Both Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and King Harald V have expressed their support for those affected.
Kjell Arne Hermansen, a local government representative, stated: 'You can use the word 'catastrophe' when such a large fire strikes our town.'
Authorities and rescue teams continue to address the aftermath of this emergency.
