Ukraine's Air Defense Performance in May 2023

According to UATV: Ukraine's air defense system achieved a notable boost in effectiveness last May, intercepting 92% of hostile drones and 53% of incoming missiles. According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, the enemy intensified its attacks during this period, forcing the country's air defense forces to step up and improve their operations.

On June 5, 2023, the Ministry of Defense released the air defense results for May. During that month, a total of 8,351 aerial attack assets were launched, of which Ukraine's air defense intercepted 7,588 drones and missiles. Specifically, the interception rate for Russian strike drones reached 91.73%, while for cruise and ballistic missiles it exceeded 53%. The overall interception rate for aerial targets during massive strikes hit 90.75%.

Destruction of Enemy Missiles and Drones

In May, the following were destroyed:

  • 2 Kh-47 M2 'Kinzhal' missiles
  • 50 Kh-101 missiles
  • 10 'Iskander-M/KN-23' missiles
  • 11 'Kalibr' missiles
  • 14 Kh-59/69 missiles
  • 24 'Iskander-K' missiles

These key figures highlight the high effectiveness of Ukraine's air defense amid active combat operations.

On the night of June 5, the enemy attacked Ukrainian territory with two Kh-59/69 missiles and 216 drones. This incident once again underscores the urgent need to sustain and expand the air defense system in the face of mounting threats from the adversary.
