Tragic Incident of Road Violence

According to The Sun: 17-year-old Kaitlyn Strate remained on life support in hopes of saving her child after sustaining a gunshot wound to the head during a road rage incident.

Sadly, she passed away after the shooting that occurred on Sunday morning when the girl was driving with her boyfriend to her mother's house in Louisiana.

Kaitlyn Strate, 17 years old, became a victim of a 'road rage incident.' Her killer, 54-year-old Barry West, is charged with four counts of second-degree attempted murder. Kaitlyn and her boyfriend at their gender reveal party for their unborn child.

Circumstances of the Incident

According to local media reports, Kaitlyn's car and another vehicle heading in the same direction began to cut each other off.

The driver of the second vehicle, 54-year-old Barry West, opened fire on the Ford Expedition in which Kaitlyn was traveling.

The girl, who was seven months pregnant, was shot in the head while sitting in the front passenger seat.

She was urgently transported to the hospital, where an emergency cesarean section was performed.

Currently, the baby is in the neonatal intensive care unit.

Although the baby weighs just three pounds and 11 ounces, its condition is stable, law enforcement reports.

Kaitlyn could not recover from her injuries; her family reported.

Relatives disconnected her from life support and began preparations for the funeral.

“[Her] mother is in despair,” said relative Katie Kensiën to Nola.com.
“She just lost her child and now she has become a grandmother.”

Justice and Further Events

Katie also started a fundraising campaign on GoFundMe, stating: “We are raising money in memory of Kaitlyn Strate, 17 years old, who tragically lost her life during a road rage incident on Monday morning in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, while being 27 weeks pregnant.”

“Her baby survived, and now we are seeking help to cover Kaitlyn's funeral expenses, medical bills, and necessary items for the baby, who will now be cared for by the grandmother.”

Barry West was arrested and charged with four counts of second-degree attempted murder, unlawful use of a weapon, and obstruction of justice.

Sheriff Gerald Sticker stated: “This is a senseless tragedy… and there is no logical explanation for this sorrow for this family.”
