The President of the European Council made a statement regarding the future of Ukraine.

The President of the European Council, António Costa, arrived in Ukraine and met with President Volodymyr Zelensky. This is mentioned in a video published on the Telegram channel of the Head of the Ukrainian state.

We came here on the first day of our work. We want to express our support for you. We have stayed, we are staying, and we will stand with you during this war. But we would also like to talk about the future because we want to welcome you as a member of our community, a member of our Union.

On her part, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaia Kallas, who also arrived in Kyiv, stated the need to concentrate all efforts to end the war in Ukraine, in order to weaken Russia and strengthen Ukraine.

The Commissioner for Enlargement, Olta Xhaçka, added: I will help you even now with the reconstruction of Ukraine. But my task will be to prepare a place for you in the European Union.

Volodymyr Zelensky reported that during the meeting, the parties discussed the vision of European and global issues: current problems and prospects.

This symbolic start of work reflects the main priorities for all of us in Europe. Peace is the foundation, and we will do everything we can to end this war, instigated by Russia not only against Ukraine but also against a united Europe, to end this war justly, and to strengthen our Europe – the institutions of the European Union and the policies supporting every European country. I am grateful for the support of Ukraine from the first day of the Russian full-scale invasion.

Let us remind you that the European Union plans to provide Ukraine with 1.5 billion euros every month from the profits of frozen Russian assets starting from January 2025.
