Kremlin Snubs Zelenskyy’s G7 Meeting Offer, Demands Talks on Russian Soil.
Behind the Failed Ukraine-Russia Meeting at the G7 Summit
According to Novyny.live: Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy sought a face-to-face meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin during the upcoming G7 summit, scheduled for June 15–17, 2023, in Évian-les-Bains, France. However, Moscow has effectively ignored the proposal, offering no official response to Kyiv’s request.
According to the Ukrainian Presidential Office, the meeting offer was communicated “some time ago, through multiple channels, including intermediaries, diplomats, and intelligence services.” Despite these efforts, no clear reply came from the Russian side. Instead, Kremlin spokesperson Yuriy Ushakov stated that the Ukrainian delegation was told to “come to Russia.”

Ongoing Tensions and Diplomatic Gridlock
Notably, on June 14, 2023, Zelenskyy held a phone conversation with former U.S. President Donald Trump, likely discussing the current situation and potential paths to resolve the conflict. Yet, despite these diplomatic efforts, the situation remains fraught, and a meeting between the Ukrainian and Russian leaders appears highly unlikely at this stage.
The Kremlin’s refusal to engage at the G7 summit underscores the deepening strain in Ukraine-Russia relations. It also suggests that diplomatic initiatives from both sides are yielding little progress in negotiations. While calls between international figures like Trump signal ongoing interest in resolving the crisis, concrete outcomes remain elusive.
