Electrical conductivity of materials is an important property that affects the efficiency of devices in engineering, electronics, and energy. Silver is considered the best conductor, but due to its cost, it is used sparingly. Copper, while less conductive than silver, is much cheaper and widely used in construction. Aluminum is chosen for its lightness and availability. Gold, although having lower electrical conductivity, is used in devices that are meant to operate without maintenance for many years. The conductivity of materials is also affected by temperature, purity of the metal, surface structure, and the type of connection. In modern electronics, these aspects are taken into account by using alloys and nanostructures.
