The Psychology of Conflict: How to Avoid Arguments with Relatives During the War

Psychologist Maria Yatsuhnenko shared useful tips on how to avoid conflicts with relatives you have to live under one roof with during the war in Ukraine. She published her advice on the NV website.

'Those close to us are usually important, which is why we care about them. In a shared space, we begin to search for what satisfies the majority. Immediately noticeable are the irreconcilable points of contact – and it is worth discussing them, as telepathy does not work in this case,' the expert explained.

Maria Yatsuhnenko advises establishing your own priorities. For example, your principles should be more important than the priorities of your parents' family, or vice versa.

'This position can be perceived very sharply by the older generation. And instead, it should be maintained with firmness and respect for parents. You have the right to live your own life, and parents have the right to their own feelings,' the psychologist added.

It is also important to remember that living together will only be temporary, but relationships with close people need to be cared for on a permanent basis.
