The Kremlin Raises Taxes Due to the War: How This Will Impact Citizens of the Russian Federation.
Increased Tax Pressure in Russia
According to ТСН: The Kremlin plans a significant increase in the tax burden on the population and businesses due to the deteriorating economic situation in the country. Official data indicates that economic growth in Russia has effectively halted, and the industrial sector is experiencing a recession.
At the same time, Kremlin expenditures on military needs continue to soar, while the economy fails to provide adequate budget revenues. In this situation, Russian authorities have chosen the simpler path — to offset the deficit at the expense of citizens and businesses.
In Russia, the value-added tax has already been raised, the simplified taxation system for small businesses is being virtually abolished, and new levies for the population are being introduced. Under the guise of talks about 'fairness' and 'technological development', the financial burden of war is being placed on ordinary citizens.
As emphasized by the Center for Counteracting Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, citizens of the Russian Federation are already feeling the consequences: prices are rising, and real incomes are falling. The Kremlin's demand to 'significantly increase' tax collections is a signal of further deterioration of the socio-economic situation.
The economy, drained by war, and a society forced to finance the ambitions of the authorities are gradually approaching a critical limit. Under such conditions, further protests and discontent among the population can be expected, as tax increases amid rising prices may lead to serious social consequences.
