Ukraine will not surrender Donbas: expert explained why the Armed Forces will hold the defense

The situation in Donbas

Donbas has become a key target for the Kremlin. Russian President Vladimir Putin is even willing to freeze the war with Ukraine in exchange for full control over the region. Currently, Russia controls about 70% of Donetsk and almost all of Luhansk. However, the Ukrainian military does not plan to surrender the rest of the territory without a fight. This was stated on the FREEДOM TV channel by military expert Vladislav Seleznev.

'Being directly at the front lines, in the trenches, any political processes, statements, certain meetings, summits, and conferences are perceived quite differently. The farther you are from Kyiv, the differently you perceive the war. Many of my military colleagues, who are currently in the thick of events, are very determined to hold on to 30% of Ukrainian territory in Donbas. After all, firstly, this is greatly facilitated by a very powerful network of fortifications that have been built since 2014. Plus the blood of Ukrainian soldiers spilled for Donbas. It also requires us to have resilience, courage, and heroism,' said the military expert.

Seleznev emphasized that the resources promised to Ukraine by partners from Europe and America are quite sufficient for reliable defense of Donetsk.

'Again, the enormous number of events carried out over the past more than 10 years of war with Russia allows me to assert this. Yes, the enemy has very ambitious plans, rather, he had them. He planned to fully occupy the entire Donetsk region by August as part of the spring-summer offensive campaign. For this, he initially tried to form three strike footholds. One in the direction of Lyman, another in the direction of Chasovy Yar, and the third in the Toretsk direction. But, as we can see, to this day, these strike footholds have not been properly formed. And this means that the enemy's plans are moving again,' the guest of the program stated.

He also noted that unpredictable processes may begin this fall in the Russian Federation.

'Putin's desire to achieve results at any cost leads to serious problems, including in the Russian economy. Therefore, I cannot say for sure that Russia will have the same resilience in solving economic problems closer to the New Year. And will Russia have the appropriate forces, resources, and means to finance the aggression it unleashed against Ukraine back in February 2014,' summarized Vladislav Seleznev.

the situation in Donbas remains tense, and the Ukrainian military maintains readiness for defense. Experts note that support from Western partners is crucial for the stability of the region. It is important how events in Russia will develop, as this may also influence the course of the war and the Kremlin's plans regarding Ukraine.
