Putin Responds to Zelensky's Letter: What He Said About a Meeting and Russia's War Aims.
Volodymyr Zelensky’s Appeal
According to Espreso.tv: On June 4, Volodymyr Zelensky issued an open letter to Vladimir Putin, proposing a meeting to bring an end to the war. In his response, Putin stated he has never refused to meet with the Ukrainian president. According to him, Kyiv is pushing for this meeting in an attempt to slow the advance of Russian armed forces.
Putin also stressed that hostilities would only cease once Russia achieves its objectives.
“The fighting will end someday, and it will end when Russia reaches the goals it has set for itself,” — Vladimir Putin.Additionally, Putin described Zelensky’s letter as containing 'elements of rudeness.'
The Kremlin confirmed that Zelensky’s letter would be handed over to Putin at a later time. Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted that the president’s message was also directed at Russians who oppose the war. Putin urged action with the words:
“Get to work, brothers,” — Vladimir Putin.
The Situation in Ukraine
Zelensky’s appeal underscores Ukraine’s efforts to pursue a diplomatic resolution to the conflict, despite ongoing tensions and hostility from Russia. Putin’s stance—tying the end of hostilities to the fulfillment of Russian goals—reflects the Kremlin’s strategy of prolonging military operations. In this context, the international community’s response and the broader global reaction remain critical factors that could shape the future course of negotiations.
