Putin issued an ultimatum to Ukraine: what his new threats mean.
According to ТСН: Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, made a new aggressive statement regarding the war with Ukraine. He effectively issued an ultimatum to Ukraine, stating that combat operations will continue until Moscow achieves its goals if the Ukrainian authorities do not agree to capitulation under the guise of 'peace'.
This is reported by Russian media.
"If Kyiv does not wish to end the matter peacefully, Russia will solve all tasks in its special military operation through armed means," said the Russian dictator.
In addition to threats, Putin attempted to reassure Russian citizens, repeating traditional arguments that the war is going according to the Kremlin's plan.
"All tasks facing the Russian Armed Forces in the special military operation are being accomplished according to the design," asserts Putin, ignoring the huge losses of his own army and the economic consequences for Russia.
Negotiations as an illusion
It is worth noting that Russia formally demonstrates a willingness for negotiations, however, Western experts consider these signals merely an imitation of dialogue. Analyst Andreas Umland from the Stockholm Center for Eastern European Studies indicates that the Kremlin uses the "negotiation game" to disorient the international community and pressure Ukraine in order to issue ultimatums.
Threats to Russian authority
The expert emphasizes that the end of the war could pose a threat to Vladimir Putin's authority, as the Russian economy and society are deeply militarized, and a sudden transition to peace could trigger an internal crisis. Real prospects for a peaceful resolution are only possible if military pressure on the front is intensified and harsher economic sanctions against Russia are implemented, despite temporary support from China.
The situation surrounding the war in Ukraine leaves great doubts about the possibility of a peaceful resolution. In the context of constant threats from the Kremlin and its military actions, Ukraine's negotiating positions seem to require greater international engagement and support to withstand this tense environment. At the same time, the further developments and the possibility of peace initiatives in the future will largely depend on the state of the Russian economy.
