Putin Delayed Trump's Negotiators by 3 Hours: What Peace Terms He Presented.
According to ТСН: Vladimir Putin used a combination of charisma, cautious delays, and direct threats to make it clear to representatives of the US president - Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner - what Russia's position on peace with Ukraine is.
According to Politico, Witkoff and Kushner were forced to spend some time in Moscow while the 'fuhrer' of Russia delayed them for several hours before the meeting in the Kremlin. During their wait, Putin held a press conference at an investment forum, accusing Europe of sabotaging the peace process and hinting at possible escalation.
Politico notes that Putin has a habit of keeping foreign dignitaries waiting. As a result, the meeting began nearly three hours later than planned.
Content of the Negotiations
In a video filmed by the Kremlin, Putin is seen greeting Witkoff and Kushner, asking if they like Moscow. The special envoy replied:
“It is a wonderful city”.
The discussion of the more than four-year war in Ukraine concluded only after midnight. Putin's foreign policy advisor Kirill Dmitriev described the meeting as 'productive', while assistant Yuri Ushakov characterized the conversation as 'useful, constructive, and very substantive'.
According to Ushakov, Putin emphasized the 'destructive actions of the European side', which, according to Politico, indicates his intention to blame the EU for any failures in reaching a peace agreement.
Reflections on Peace
Trump's latest attempts to ramp up efforts for a ceasefire, with a plan that initially favored Moscow, have raised concerns among European officials.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine may be experiencing 'the most difficult moment in its history', demonstrating a willingness for dialogue. However, it remains unclear what Trump's demands are towards Russia and what concessions Moscow is willing to make.
Before the negotiations, Putin showed no signs of readiness to abandon his demand for the effective capitulation of Ukraine, condemning Zelensky as an illegitimate leader.
Political expert Tatyana Stanovaya noted:
“Putin is ready for peace. Just on his terms”.
Moreover, Putin intends to return to the 28-point plan that aligns with his demands, taking into account the situation on the battlefield.
Trump Sent an Unconventional Team of Negotiators to Moscow. CNN characterized this group, which includes special envoy Steve Witkoff and the president's son-in-law Jared Kushner, as diplomatically unconventional. However, Trump himself views them as the most effective 'intermediaries' capable of 'closing the deal' between Kyiv and Moscow.
The subsequent actions of these politicians could significantly affect the situation in Ukraine and the relations between the US and Russia. In the context of ongoing tensions, it is important to monitor these negotiations, as they could potentially change the course of the conflict and impact security in the region.
