UN Security Council to convene urgently due to Russian missile strikes on Kyiv: details.
According to FREEДOM:
Emergency meeting of the UN Security Council
Today, August 29, at 22:00 Kyiv time, an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council will take place, initiated by Ukraine with the support of international partners. This was announced by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha, according to FREEДОМ.
Response to missile strikes
The meeting has been convened in response to a new wave of massive missile and drone attacks by Russia on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities. Only the strikes on the capital on the night of August 28 claimed dozens of lives among the civilian population, including children.
“We call on the members of the Security Council to use this meeting to express support for Ukraine in the face of Russian terror and to increase pressure on the aggressor. Only decisive pressure, including new harsh sanctions, can make Moscow stop simulating diplomacy and join real efforts to end the war,” stated Sybiha.
Tragedy in Kyiv
It was previously reported that rescue operations in Kyiv have concluded at the site of one of the most horrific strikes by Russia. Rescuers continue to clear the rubble of a building where an entire entrance collapsed due to the explosion. On the night of August 28, Russia killed 23 people, including 4 children.
These events highlight the seriousness of the situation in Ukraine and the need for international support in the context of armed aggression. The results of the UN Security Council meeting may significantly influence the further development of events and possible international reactions to Russia's actions. It is important for the global community to remain united in the fight against aggression and the protection of human rights in Ukraine.
