Forced Relocation of Residents from Border Areas in Chernihiv Oblast

According to Novyny.live: Effective July 1, 2023, the Defense Council has mandated the evacuation of civilians from border territories in Chernihiv Oblast, with completion expected within two months. This decision targets 12 settlements across four territorial communities, where approximately 1,000 people—including 120 children—currently reside. The measure reflects escalating security risks due to ongoing military activity near Ukraine's northern border.

The evacuation list includes the following villages:

  • In the Koriukivka community: Prybyn, Shyshkivka, and Rudnia;
  • In the Horodnia community: Lemeshivka and Moshchenka;
  • In the Novhorod-Siverskyi community: Vorobiivka, Kamin, Kamyanska Sloboda, Karabany, and Chaikyne;
  • In the Semenivka community: Gazoprovidne and Oleksandrivka.

Additional evacuations are planned from other locations, including:

  • In the Snovsk community: Hirsk;
  • In the Horodnia community: Berylivka;
  • In the Novhorod-Siverskyi community: Buchky, Hremyach, and Budo-Vorobiivska;
  • In the Semenivka community: Kostobobriv and Zaliznyi Mist.
This information was provided by Vyacheslav Chaus, head of the Chernihiv Regional Military Administration.

Notably, a similar forced evacuation order has been issued for 23 villages and settlements in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, highlighting the broader pattern of security threats along Ukraine's front-line regions.

Growing Danger to Civilian Safety

The mandatory evacuation from Chernihiv's border zones underscores the heightened danger to local populations, driven by active hostilities. These steps aim to protect civilians—especially children—by moving them out of harm's way. As the security situation in Ukraine remains volatile, comparable measures may be enacted in other at-risk areas. The parallel evacuation in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast reinforces this trend, emphasizing the critical need for human safety amid the ongoing conflict.
