The Dnipropetrovsk region also became a target — over 70 facilities were set on fire. FREEДOM reports on the consequences of the combined strikes.

Attack on Zaporizhzhia

The shelling of the Zaporizhzhia region began after midnight, when the enemy delivered at least 12 strikes, using six missiles and six drones. Larysa, a resident of Zaporizhzhia, said she woke up to explosions and was able to save her life thanks to her dog Chernysh.

“The dog saved my life — I managed to run away in time. He heard and saved me. I didn’t understand what he wanted. He was jumping in the window. I heard, I said: 'Get away from the windows quickly'. Everyone moved away, we hid in the corridor. Otherwise — it would have just torn us apart,” said Larysa, a resident of Zaporizhzhia.

Serious Damage

In two areas of the city, destruction of 17 high-rise buildings has been recorded. Two explosions occurred near the walls of one of the buildings, leading to shattered windows and doors. This is already the sixth case where drones exploded near this house.

“Since May 1, I have been sleeping on a folding bed, I have a corner apartment — there have been hits five times. This time I hear — the neighbors ran away. I don’t run, I have asthma, my heart hurts. I don’t go down when it flies, I sit in the toilet with documents. Today there were two hits. It felt like it fell on the roof. I heard everything flying, everything crumbled entirely. A large window fell in the apartment, the TV fell, the doors on the balcony were torn off,” said Anna, a resident of Zaporizhzhia.

Consequences of the Attacks in Zaporizhzhia

As a result of the explosion, a fire broke out that nearly completely destroyed two entrances. One of the residents died, but others managed to escape. Viktoria recounted how they hid in the entrance from the bombardments.

“We were hiding in the entrance at that time. Since one o’clock at night, starting from the 'Shaheds'. All six entrances. People come out from all floors in the entrances and hide on the first floor to avoid being buried,” shares Viktoria.

Attack on Dnipro

Dnipro also suffered an attack from the Russian Federation when more than two dozen missiles were launched at the city, including 'Iskanders'. The shelling lasted for more than three hours.

“Both 'Shaheds' and missiles. I only have windows all around, just run over there — it flies from here — bang. As soon as I run — it flies from here — bang. It's scary. Then I hear — something crackles. Somewhere from here the slate started to burn and began to crackle heavily,” shares Tamara, a resident of Dnipro.

One of the missiles hit a private house, which was empty at night due to the owner’s departure.

“Neighbors called, I arrived around four-thirty in the morning. And I saw that the house was burning. Then firefighters arrived to extinguish everything. But nothing remained of the house, as you can see,” said Dmytro, the owner of the burned house.

Help for the Victims

As a result of the attacks, not only residential buildings but also infrastructure, private enterprises, cafes, and shops in Dnipro were damaged. Fortunately, there are no casualties among the residents.

“I woke up around three, probably. It was loud, very loud. My husband is still sick, he started having panic attacks. It's very scary,” says Svitlana, a resident of Dnipro.

“It's good that people were not harmed. This is the most important thing for us, that people were not harmed. I came to find out — how to help, maybe something is needed,” notes Elena, a resident of Dnipro.

Headquarters have been established for the victims in the attack zones, where necessary assistance and psychological support are provided.

situation in Zaporizhzhia and Dnipro continues to remain tense. Authorities and volunteers are working on providing assistance to the victims and restoring the damaged infrastructure. The coming days will show how quickly normal life can be restored in these cities that have faced another human tragedy and destruction.
