Massive Air Assault on Ukraine: June 4, 2023

According to UATV: On June 4, 2023, the Russian military launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine, deploying a single Iskander-M ballistic missile and 293 attack drones of various types. The assault originated from multiple launch points, including Kursk, Bryansk, Millerovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, and Chauda in the temporarily occupied Crimean peninsula.

By 08:00 local time, Ukraine's air defense forces had successfully intercepted or suppressed 264 enemy drones. The downed UAVs included models such as:

  • Shahed
  • Gerbera
  • Italmas
  • Banderol
  • Parody

Reports also confirm that one ballistic missile and 24 attack drones struck 11 distinct locations, while debris from intercepted weapons fell across 12 different sites.

Ukraine's Air Defense Response

The defensive effort involved a coordinated use of aviation, surface-to-air missile units, electronic warfare (EW) teams, drones, and mobile fire groups from Ukraine's Defense Forces. According to the Air Force command,

“by 08:00, air defense units had shot down or suppressed 264 enemy drones, including Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas, and other types, over the northern, southern, and eastern parts of the country.”

This attack stands as one of the largest drone offensives to date, underscoring Russia's escalating aggression. The high success rate of Ukraine's air defense—neutralizing the vast majority of incoming drones—highlights the country's readiness to protect its skies. The increasing frequency of such strikes may indicate Moscow's intent to intensify the conflict, demanding that Ukrainian forces remain on constant alert to counter aerial threats.
