Trump considers military scenario for Greenland: what is known about US plans

According to ТСН: The United States is exploring various ways to establish control over Greenland, including the possibility of using armed forces. This issue has become a priority in the national security policy of US President Donald Trump.

According to Reuters, a representative of the President's administration stated in a media comment that Trump and his team are monitoring various scenarios to achieve this foreign policy goal. According to him,

"the use of US armed forces is always at the disposal of the Commander-in-Chief."

The chosen strategic course, aside from discussions with the military, has not changed even under the pressure of NATO's tough stance and statements from European leaders in support of Greenland.

"This is not going away,"
he emphasized, commenting on Trump's desire to acquire Greenland during the remainder of his term.

Subsequently, a representative of the administration noted that the issue of control over the island is being discussed in the Oval Office. Washington is considering several options, including the purchase of Greenland or signing a Compact of Free Association.

However, the official added that the free association format does not quite fit Trump's ambitions, who wants to see the island as part of the US. He also emphasized that the president prefers diplomacy and negotiations.

As the official noted,

"The President loves deals. If an opportunity arises to make a favorable agreement regarding the acquisition of Greenland, that will be his first choice."

The international reaction to these intentions was unequivocally negative. Leaders of Denmark, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany emphasized the sovereignty of Greenland and called for respect for the territorial integrity of allies. Denmark and the residents of Greenland have repeatedly pointed out that the island is not for sale and does not wish to become part of the US.

Conversely, there was even criticism of Trump's statements from within his party in Congress, including calls to adhere to commitments to NATO and allies.

This situation arises against the backdrop of escalating global geopolitics, particularly after the US military operation in Venezuela and growing interest in the Arctic from Russia and China. American officials emphasize the strategic importance of Greenland due to its resources and advantageous location.
