Fishing Regulations in Ukraine to Change from June 2026: Bans Lifted and New Fines Introduced.
Updated Fishing Rules Set for Ukraine
According to Novyny.live: Starting in June 2026, Ukraine will overhaul its fishing regulations. Among the key changes, certain seasonal bans will be removed, and standard fishing rules will be reinstated. Beginning June 10, fishing will be permitted on reservoirs, marking a new phase in the country’s fishery management practices. This update is part of broader efforts to balance recreational fishing with ecological sustainability.
Restrictions on fishing in select coastal and adjacent water bodies will remain in place until June 30, 2026. Meanwhile, the daily catch limit will be capped at 3 kilograms of a single fish species or one trophy specimen. To improve accessibility for anglers, the allowed number of fishing hooks will increase to seven per person.
Crayfish Harvesting Rules and Penalties
New regulations for crayfish harvesting are also being introduced. A ban on catching crayfish in large reservoirs will run from December 15, 2025, to June 30, 2026. For other water bodies, the prohibition will last from December 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026. Once the ban lifts on July 1, 2026, crayfish harvesting will be allowed under specific limits:
- Up to 30 crayfish per day in standard water bodies;
- Up to 50 crayfish per day in fee-based fishing areas.
Notably, illegal harvesting of crayfish carries a fine of 3,332 hryvnias. Exceeding daily fish catch limits may result in a penalty of up to 680 hryvnias. These revised rules, taking effect in June 2026, aim to strengthen fishery oversight in Ukraine while ensuring compliance with environmental standards.
The changes to Ukraine's fishing regulations reflect a push toward more efficient water resource management and ecosystem preservation.
Introducing new limits and rules is expected to positively impact fish stock recovery and guarantee equal fishing opportunities for everyone. It also signals a growing emphasis on the ecological dimensions of fishing within the country.
