Trump is preparing an agreement with Putin: what Ukraine and the world are preparing for.
Trump is preparing an economic proposal for Putin
U.S. President Donald Trump plans to pull a rabbit out of the hat at his meeting with Vladimir Putin, offering him access to rare earth minerals in hopes of achieving peace in Ukraine. He also has plans to ease sanctions and allow the use of natural resources.
The Telegraph reports this.
Trump's trick is scheduled for Friday evening in Anchorage. He intends to entice the Kremlin with a package of proposals, such as opening access to natural resources or easing sanctions that encourage signing a ceasefire agreement.
Sanctions, aviation and Alaska's resources
There are a number of incentives, one of which could be a potential deal regarding minerals/rare earth resources.
A possible agreement could involve lifting bans on the export of parts and equipment for Russian airlines. A portion of the Russian air fleet, based on Boeing and Airbus, requires service maintenance.
The essence is that this should not be viewed as a gift for Putin but as a pragmatic diplomatic maneuver.
Trump is also considering allowing Russia to use natural resources in the Bering Strait, which lies between the U.S. and Russia. Alaska contains significant oil and gas reserves, approximately 13% of the world's oil reserves.
Exploring these resources could strengthen Moscow's geostrategic position in the Arctic, where Russia already leads in gas extraction. Access to the shelf will allow the Kremlin not only to have additional energy sources but also to increase its influence in this critically important area.
Before the meeting, it is worth noting that the U.S. temporarily eased sanctions against Russia, which could be the first step towards resolving the conflict. Ukraine, for its part, insists on security guarantees as a priority condition for any agreements.
