According to ТСН: Preparing 12 traditional dishes for the Christmas dinner in 2025 will cost an ordinary family approximately 1374 UAH. The most expensive dishes remain fried fish, kutya, and uzvar.

Experts calculated that the set of dishes for the festive table, which includes kutya, uzvar, fried fish, vinaigrette, dumplings with various fillings, stewed cabbage, lean borscht with beans, fried potatoes, and an assortment of fresh and pickled vegetables, will cost about 1374 UAH.

Cost of individual dishes

Preparing kutya according to the traditional recipe (950 g of ingredients) will cost 213.37 UAH, making it the second most expensive dish on the table. Among the most expensive components this year:

  • poppy seeds – 72.50 UAH for 200 g,
  • peeled walnuts – 68.80 UAH,
  • raisins – 24.99 UAH for 100 g.

Wheat groats from hard varieties of wheat cost 26.90 UAH for 400 g, and honey – 18.70 UAH for 100 g.

Uzvar made from dried apples, pears, and prunes (600 g for 2 liters of water) will cost 118 UAH and take the third position in terms of cost. Traditionally, fried fish remains the most expensive – 346.02 UAH, based on calculations, this is 2 kg of live carp (339 UAH) and 200 g of flour (7.02 UAH).

Lean borscht with beans (2.53 kg of products for 2 liters) will cost 107.79 UAH. The most expensive ingredient is dry white beans (300 g) – 51.50 UAH.

Vegetables and salads

The vegetable part of the menu has become cheaper compared to last year:

  • potatoes (362 g) – 5.39 UAH,
  • cabbage (300 g) – 3.08 UAH,
  • onion (100 g) – 0.74 UAH,
  • carrots (400 g) – 4.36 UAH,
  • beetroot (800 g) – 7.78 UAH.

Additionally, 70-75 g of tomatoes will be needed for 8.67 UAH and tomato paste – 11.82 UAH.

The cost of the "Vinaigrette" salad (1.73 kg of products) will be 49.77 UAH, and the most expensive component remains pickled cucumbers in barrels – 26.80 UAH for 200 g.

Traditional lean dumplings are also part of the Christmas menu:

  • with potatoes (1.51 kg) – 32.83 UAH,
  • with cabbage (1.48 kg) – 32.03 UAH,
  • with cherries (810 g) – 87.83 UAH.
It is worth noting that the head of the Union of Ukrainian Peasantry, Ivan Tomych, forecasts that prices for certain products will rise by approximately 10% before the Christmas holidays and New Year. This increase will primarily affect pork and meat products, parts of poultry, vegetable oil, and eggs. There will not be a sharp price jump, but an increase is expected between December 18-21 and December 25-26, when buying demand will increase.

This data highlights the importance of budget planning for families preparing to celebrate Christmas. Comparing prices for traditional dishes will help Ukrainians to prepare for the festive dinner, taking into account the possible price increases in the coming days. This particularly concerns those products that are usually in high demand during the holidays.
