Difference of 60 kg. A unique judo match took place at the Olympics.
Today the final series of judo competitions at the Olympics will take place. The peculiarity of these competitions is that they are held in a team format, where the team that first wins 4 victories wins. The program of competitions will be closed by a mixed team tournament, where the current Olympic champions are the French team.
The competitions involve athletes in weight categories up to 48-57 kilograms for women and up to 60-73 kilograms for men (lightest division), up to 57-70 kilograms for women and up to 73-90 kilograms for men (middle division) and up to 70-78 and over 78 kilograms for women and up to 90-100 and over 100 kilograms for men (heaviest division). This means that athletes with a large difference in weight can meet.
At the mixed team championship between France and South Korea, an unexpected situation occurred. In the fifth match, the Koreans called an average division representative to the match, while the French put up their strongest athlete, the Olympic champion in the weight category over 100 kilograms. The match between them lasted about 90 seconds and ended with the victory of the Frenchman.
France advanced to the final where they will meet Japan, while South Korea will compete for bronze with Germany.
