Attacks on Naftogaz Infrastructure

According to UATV: On July 5, 2023, Russian troops launched strikes on facilities belonging to the Naftogaz Group in Ukraine. The attacks targeted locations in the Poltava, Kharkiv, and Sumy regions, marking the second consecutive day of shelling. These actions resulted in widespread fires and severe damage, though the company reports no casualties among its employees.

Various types of drones, including jet-powered ones, were used during the assaults. Some equipment had to be shut down due to safety concerns. In response to the events, Naftogaz representatives stated:

“Workers were unharmed thanks to precautionary safety measures implemented in advance.”

Damage Assessment and Next Steps

Company specialists plan to conduct a thorough evaluation of the damage, but this can only begin once the shelling stops and the security situation stabilizes.

“Experts will only be able to start a detailed damage assessment after the attacks cease and safety conditions are normalized.”

The situation remains tense, and further actions by Russian forces could affect the future state of Naftogaz assets.

These strikes on Naftogaz facilities highlight the growing threat to Ukraine’s infrastructure amid the ongoing war. The energy sector’s critical role in the country’s economy makes it a prime target for hostile actions, potentially leading to severe consequences for energy security. The coming days will determine how quickly the company can resume operations and what protective measures will be adopted going forward.
