Russian Strike on Odesa Energy Facility Leaves 30,800 Households Without Power.
Energy Infrastructure in Odesa Region Targeted by Russian Forces
According to Novyny.live: A Russian military attack on energy facilities in Ukraine's Odesa region has left approximately 30,800 households without electricity. The assault caused extensive damage, including to a 25-story residential building where part of the facade and two apartments were destroyed. Four private homes and 15 vehicles were also damaged in the strike.
A 33-year-old civilian man was wounded in the attack. The Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office has initiated a pre-trial investigation into the incident under Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This event underscores the persistent threat to civilian infrastructure in regions under fire from Russian forces, a pattern that has continued since the full-scale invasion began in February 2022.
Impact on the Local Population
The strike on the DTEK energy facility in Odesa has had severe consequences for the local population, depriving them of their primary power source. Residents in the affected areas now face significant new challenges in their daily lives.
This incident is part of a broader Russian strategy of deliberately targeting Ukraine's critical infrastructure, which creates humanitarian crises and complicates life for civilians. The loss of electricity during winter conditions poses serious risks to public safety and well-being, highlighting the urgent need to protect such facilities from these attacks.
