Drone Assault Targets Odesa

According to Novyny.live: In the early hours of February 17, Russian forces launched a large-scale drone attack on the port city of Odesa. The assault ignited multiple fires, damaged critical infrastructure, and resulted in civilian casualties. This attack is part of a broader pattern of strikes on Ukrainian cities far from the front lines.

The strike damaged a 25-story residential building, with an apartment on the 22nd floor among those hit. Psychologists from the State Emergency Service (SES) provided assistance to 20 residents, including one child, at the scene. Commercial properties were also impacted, including a vehicle service station and a tire storage warehouse, where a fire spread across 300 square meters.

  • In a garage cooperative, seven garages were damaged, resulting in the destruction of two vehicles.
  • More than 50 rescue workers were deployed to manage the aftermath of the attack.
  • Two civilians, aged 62 and 65, were hospitalized with injuries sustained in the bombardment.

All those injured received necessary medical care, and SES psychologists continue to provide support to residents traumatized by the event.

Utility Services Disrupted

The drone attack severely disrupted public utilities in Odesa. Parts of the city were left without electricity, and water supply was cut off in several districts. The situation remains challenging, with emergency crews and utility services working to restore infrastructure and essential services for residents.

This incident underscores the ongoing military aggression and the persistent threat to civilian life in Ukraine, particularly given recent attacks that have inflicted significant damage on both infrastructure and non-combatants.

The response from emergency and medical services highlights the critical need for preparedness and victim support in such crises. Restoring utilities and normal life in Odesa will be a priority in the coming days as the city works to recover from this assault.
