Strikes Target Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk Regions
According to UATV: On January 17, 2023, Russian military forces launched attacks on Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions, resulting in residential destruction and civilian injuries. These regions are situated in southeastern Ukraine and have been frequent targets since the full-scale invasion began. Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, reported 38 instances of housing damage in his region, with three people wounded in the assault.
Separately, Russian troops shelled the Dnipropetrovsk region using artillery and FPV drones. The communities of Nikopol, Marhanets, and Pokrovsk came under fire. The shelling caused damage to:
- a five-story apartment building
- four private houses
- two outbuildings
- a gas pipeline
- a power line
According to Dnipropetrovsk Regional Governor Oleksandr Gandziuk, there were no reported casualties in the Dnipropetrovsk region from this attack.
Concern Among Local Residents
The strikes have heightened anxiety among local residents and underscore the persistent threat posed by Russian forces in the area.
Given the ongoing military escalations in Ukraine, such attacks highlight the critical need for civilian safety and protection.
Despite the absence of casualties in Dnipropetrovsk, the damage to critical infrastructure is likely to have long-term consequences for local communities. The situation in the region remains tense, with local authorities continuing efforts to ensure security and repair the damaged structures.
