Russia's Push Toward Sloviansk: The Critical Role of the Pokrovsk-Myrnohrad Area
According to UATV: On February 7, it was revealed that Russian occupation forces view the Pokrovsk-Myrnohrad agglomeration as a strategic springboard for advancing toward Sloviansk and Kramatorsk. The situation in Myrnohrad is deteriorating as enemy attacks persist despite adverse weather conditions. This escalation in combat activity is causing significant concern among military analysts. The eastern Donbas region has long been a focal point of the conflict, with these cities serving as key Ukrainian defensive hubs.
The intensity of operations is underscored by the involvement of the 79th Separate Air Assault Brigade in the fighting around Myrnohrad. In January alone, over a thousand combat engagements occurred on the Huliaipole axis, with airstrikes in that sector increasing by 60%. This surge points to a concerted effort by Russian forces and the potential for a further sharpening of the frontline situation.
Frontline Dynamics and Combat Effectiveness
Since their establishment in the summer of 2025, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) systems have achieved a 33% strike effectiveness rate. Drones now account for roughly 60% of all firepower on the front, though current weather is hampering their full deployment, as noted by spokesperson Serhiy Bratychuk. He also stated that the Zaporizhzhia front remains highly active, with the depth of combat formations currently increasing, which may signal preparations for a potential offensive against key regional cities.
Bratychuk further observed that Stepnohorsk represents high ground from which, if captured, the enemy could more intensively shell the outskirts of Zaporizhzhia. Consequently, the situation in the Pokrovsk-Myrnohrad agglomeration demands close attention, as it could prove decisive in the unfolding battles. Control of this area is vital for dominating major transport routes, which would significantly influence the future course of the war in eastern Ukraine.

Given the heightened tempo of fighting and the rising number of attacks, Ukrainian forces must concentrate on fortifying defensive positions and closely monitoring enemy movements.
