Zelensky and Trump to Meet in Florida: Peace for Ukraine in Final Stages.
According to ТСН: Negotiations to end the war in Ukraine have reached a significant milestone. U.S. President Donald Trump will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at Mar-a-Lago, Florida. The purpose of this meeting is to attempt to reach a final agreement regarding the peace plan.
According to information, the organization of this meeting indicates substantial progress. Trump has previously emphasized that he is ready for personal negotiations only if close to reaching a real agreement.
The Ukrainian side demonstrates determination on the issues of peaceful resolution. After a briefing with chief negotiator Rustem Umerov, Zelensky confirmed that key issues should be resolved by the end of the year.
“We are not wasting a single day. We have agreed on a high-level meeting with President Trump soon. A lot can be resolved before the New Year,” said the head of state.
According to reports, negotiations continued even during the Christmas holidays. Trump's advisors held a series of intensive meetings with both the Ukrainian and Russian sides.
American officials describe the process as “positive and constructive,” noting that more progress has been made in the last two weeks than in the entire previous year.
What About Security Guarantees
According to sources, most elements of the agreement between the U.S. and Ukraine have already been coordinated. One of the key aspects is Washington's readiness to provide Ukraine with real security guarantees.
A senior U.S. official confirmed that the White House is ready to present a document to the Senate for ratification based on Article 5 of the NATO Charter.
“The U.S. and Europe will provide Ukraine with security guarantees. If Russia invades Ukraine, there will be a military response and sanctions will be reinstated,” Volodymyr Zelensky had previously stated.
What are the Main Discrepancies
Despite successes in negotiations with the U.S., talks with Moscow remain challenging. The main obstacle is the status of occupied territories.
Russia's Demand: The Kremlin insists on control over all of Donbas within any agreement.
U.S. Proposal: the creation of a demilitarized 'free economic zone' in territories from which Ukrainian troops will be offered to withdraw.
Ukraine's Position: Zelensky insists on a mirrored withdrawal of Russian troops and emphasizes that any territorial compromises must be approved by the Ukrainian people in a referendum.
Is a Ceasefire Possible
To hold a referendum, a peaceful regime must be established. The American side supports the idea of a ceasefire as part of the agreement.
According to sources, the Russian side, which had previously opposed a ceasefire, now agrees on the need for a pause for voting.
Timing issues are being resolved: Ukraine insists on a 60-day ceasefire, while Russia may seek to shorten this period. Discussions are also ongoing regarding the management of the Zaporizhzhia NPP.
Zelensky stated that during the meeting with Trump, he will discuss ensuring security for Ukraine and post-war reconstruction.
In his opinion, the teams of Ukraine and the U.S. have already prepared the first drafts of documentation, and some sensitive issues may only be considered by the leaders of the countries.
The president also noted that the 20-point peace plan is in the final stage of preparation.
Thus, the situation surrounding the peace negotiations shows gradual progress, but many complex issues remain unresolved. Particularly important is the preservation of Ukraine's security and achieving an agreement that meets the interests of all parties. How different participants in the process will react to this will become clear in the near future during official meetings and further diplomatic efforts.
