Russia Does Not Want Peace: Podolyak Explained Why Negotiations with the Kremlin Are Impossible

According to FREEДOM:

Russia's Refusal to Negotiate

Russian rocket and drone attacks on Ukraine, particularly on energy infrastructure, indicate the Kremlin's unwillingness to end the war and engage in peace talks. This was stated by Mikhail Podolyak, an advisor to the President of Ukraine, during a broadcast on the FREEДОМ channel on August 27.

In his opinion, Russia is predictable in its actions.

“It will accumulate resources along the front line. It will use a large number of drones to kill civilians. It will launch missile strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. This is what it did one or two years ago, just the scales are increasing because Russia sees that after three years of war, the international community as a whole is not ready to apply tools to coerce the Russian Federation to peace, even though they exist in the United States and even in China. And therefore, Russia is clearly demonstrating a desire to continue the war,” Podolyak said.

Unwillingness for Peace Negotiations

He emphasized that President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly stated on various platforms that Russia is not ready for a peace process.

“Russia can only be coerced into the negotiation process at the level of a single entity — Putin. If you ask him for something or pretend that we do not understand what Russia is doing, then, thinking that the Russian Federation is supposedly preparing for peace, it will simply increase such strikes,” the advisor to the President's Office is confident.

The Illegitimacy of the President of Ukraine

Podolyak added that in Russia they continue to talk about the illegitimacy of the President of Ukraine, which further indicates Putin's unwillingness to negotiate.

“Against the backdrop, for example, of the fact that China, as the host of Russia, sends greetings on Independence Day, Lavrov goes out and says that we doubt the legitimacy of the president of another country. For me, it is mysterious: by what criteria do you assess the legitimacy of someone? For the United States, for China, for European countries, practically for everyone except probably North Korea and Russia, there is legitimacy. And Russia claims that even if we are ready for negotiations, we do not understand who from Ukraine will sign any agreements. This indicates Russia's unpreparedness for a realistic negotiation process,” he noted.

The guest of the broadcast added that Russia does not even show any desire to stop the war.

It is worth noting that President Donald Trump stated during a government meeting that the USA would start an “economic war” against Russia if it refuses to make peace with Ukraine.

Thus, the situation remains tense, and Russia's readiness for dialogue looks questionable. In a situation where the conflict has lasted for more than three years, international players continue to look for ways to influence the situation, but real changes are currently impossible without the Kremlin's clear readiness for negotiations.
