Russia Lacks Resources for a Full-Scale Offensive: What’s Happening Near Kupiansk.
Current Situation on the Kupiansk Front
According to UATV: Russian forces are still carrying out attacks near Kupiansk, but according to Viktor Tregubov, spokesperson for the Joint Forces Group of Ukraine, they do not have enough resources to mount simultaneous offensives across all sectors. On June 2, Ukrainian defenders repelled five separate attempts by Russian troops to advance toward Kupiansk.
Targeted Settlements
The settlements that came under Russian assault include:
- Kupiansk
- Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi
- Kurylivka
Tregubov noted that due to limited resources, Russian forces are forced to attack on multiple axes at once—toward Borova, north of Kupiansk, and toward Lyman. However, as he put it,
“they simply lack the strength to do everything at the same time.”
This situation highlights the growing difficulties the Russian army faces in its military campaign and underscores the resilience of Ukrainian forces in defense.
The ongoing combat around Kupiansk not only reflects the intensity of frontline fighting but also reveals strategic challenges for Russia. The inability to launch coordinated attacks across multiple sectors may indicate a decline in both troop numbers and available resources, which could significantly shape the future trajectory of the conflict. Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces continue to hold their ground effectively, a factor that may prove crucial in maintaining stability on this front in the months ahead.
