Shelling in the Kherson Region

According to UATV: On February 16, 2026, the Russian Federation's military shelled settlements in the Kherson region, resulting in civilian casualties. As of 5:30 PM, five civilians had been wounded. The attacks were carried out using artillery, multiple launch rocket systems, mortars, and drones. This assault is part of a pattern of strikes on the southern Ukrainian region, which was liberated from Russian occupation in late 2022 but remains under constant fire.

According to the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office, two employees of a medical facility were among the injured. Around 4:00 PM, one woman sustained a head injury from enemy shelling.

"All the injured are residents of Kherson. In the morning, the enemy struck the city with rockets from an MLRS—a man was wounded. Later, another man was injured by a projectile dropped from an enemy drone. In the afternoon, an artillery bombardment occurred, with shells hitting the grounds of one of the city's hospitals. As a result, two female staff members of the institution were injured." — Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office

Damage to Infrastructure

The following damage was also recorded:

  • private houses and apartment buildings;
  • a medical facility;
  • private businesses;
  • dormitories;
  • automobiles.

"Damage was sustained by private and multi-apartment houses, a healthcare institution, private enterprises, a dormitory, and motor vehicles." — Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office

The situation in the region remains tense, with local residents continuing to suffer from the consequences of hostilities. The shelling of settlements in Kherson Oblast is part of the ongoing military conflict that severely impacts civilian life. The targeting of medical workers underscores the vulnerability of the civilian population amid active combat. These events highlight the escalating violence in the area and the urgent need for international attention to the humanitarian consequences of the war.
