Russia resumes air transportation to Syria: why Khmeimim is at risk.
According to inkorr.com: After a six-month break, Russia has resumed military transportation to the Khmeimim airbase in Syria. According to data from the Flightradar24 system, at least two military transport aircraft departed for the Syrian province of Latakia. The resumption of air transportation occurs against the backdrop of the fact that the facilities in Khmeimim and Tartus are critically important for the Russian army and are currently at risk due to potential political changes in Syria.
A source close to the Kremlin confirmed to the publication the fact of the resumption of air communication with Syrian bases.
The Khmeimim airbase and the Tartus port play an important role in Russian military operations in the region. However, in the event of the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime, the future of these facilities may become uncertain. The new authorities in Syria may reconsider the agreement on military presence, creating significant strategic problems for Russia.
Thus, despite the resumption of military transportation, Russian facilities in Syria remain at risk due to potential changes in the political landscape of the country.
