Zelensky on Russia's refusal of truce: it struck blows on Christmas Eve

According to ТСН: Russia not only rejected the proposal for a Christmas truce but continues to deliver massive strikes, taking lives on the day when Ukrainians celebrate Christmas Eve.

As reported by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky on Telegram, the Ukrainian people share the disappointment of Pope Leo XIV over this refusal.

“Russia not only rejected the proposal to stop the killings at least on this holy day; it dealt a massive missile and drone strike on the Ukrainian energy system, which caused power outages, and continues assaults on the front,” the Ukrainian president noted.

Zelensky reminded that Ukrainians are celebrating their fourth Christmas during the full-scale war, which is the largest in Europe since World War II.

“It is important for people around the world not to remain silent. It is important not to allow Russia to normalize brutality, terror, and aggression against our people. I urge all responsible leaders to support peace, as the pontiff does. We are grateful for every such expression of solidarity,” emphasized the Ukrainian leader.

The President of Ukraine wished peaceful holidays and a happy Christmas Eve to everyone celebrating.

“May peace be restored in every peace-loving country and every community that honors this holiday in times of war,” he added.

Let us recall that Pope Leo XIV expressed “great sorrow” over Russia's refusal for a Christmas truce in the war against Ukraine, urging both sides to cease hostilities at least on Christmas.

This situation underscores the tragic consequences of the war in Ukraine, especially during the festive days when families should celebrate together. Russia's refusal to ceasefire also reflects a lack of willingness for peace negotiations, which continues to stress Ukrainians and does not allow for a restoration of calm.
