Russian Attack on the Centralized Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Facility

According to Novyny.live: In the early hours of June 7, Russian forces launched a drone strike targeting the site of Ukraine’s Centralized Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Facility. The attack occurred at 2:10 AM, damaging the container reception building. Crucially, no spent nuclear fuel was being stored in the building at the time of the strike, and radiation levels remain normal.

A fire broke out across an area of 40 square meters following the assault, but emergency crews were able to extinguish it. Fortunately, no staff members were injured. That same night, Russia deployed 236 drones of various types across Ukraine. In addition to the storage facility attack, the Dnipro region was also hit, resulting in at least one death and several injuries. This region is home to critical energy and industrial infrastructure.

Growing Concerns Over Attacks on Nuclear Sites

The situation remains tense, as strikes on critical infrastructure continue to alarm both the public and emergency response agencies.

This incident highlights the serious threat posed by attacks on facilities handling nuclear materials, even when dangerous waste is not present on site. The strike on the Centralized Storage Facility not only represents another act of Russian military aggression but also raises deep concerns about regional safety and security. Assaults on such critical infrastructure could lead to severe humanitarian consequences and underscore the urgent need for heightened preparedness among response teams to address these evolving dangers.
