Phosphorus Bombs Strike Kostiantynivka: Video of Attack Released.
Assault on Kostiantynivka
According to UATV: On June 3, 2023, Russian forces targeted residential areas in Kostiantynivka, Donetsk region, using phosphorus munitions that are banned under international law. This strike is part of an ongoing campaign where occupying Russian troops repeatedly deploy hazardous chemical agents.
Footage of the assault, released by the 'Khizhak' unit of the Patrol Police Department, documents the aftermath of the shelling. Maksym Kravchuk, spokesperson for the Support Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, confirmed that chemical substances were used during this attack.
Deployment of Dangerous Chemical Agents
According to data published in May, Russian occupiers have used hazardous chemicals over 230 times. Since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, more than 13,000 instances of chemical agent use against Ukraine's Defense Forces have been recorded. This situation has raised international alarm, underscoring the severe threat posed to civilians in the region.
The use of banned munitions, including phosphorus bombs, violates international norms and can lead to serious consequences for human health and the environment.
Given the numerous cases of hazardous chemical deployment, the international community may be compelled to take additional steps to address these violations. This highlights the need for ongoing monitoring and support for efforts aimed at protecting civilians and preventing further attacks.
