Shelling Across Sumy Oblast
According to Novyny.live: On February 6, Russian forces struck the Zarichnyi district of Sumy, damaging a residential building. The attack resulted in the destruction of roughly 11 windows, 12 balconies, and one car. This incident is part of a broader assault, as over the past day, the Russian army launched nearly 60 strikes targeting 40 settlements across 18 communities in Sumy Oblast. The region borders Russia and has faced persistent shelling since the full-scale invasion began.
The air raid alert in Sumy Oblast lasted for over 21 hours, highlighting the intense pressure on the region. As noted by Artem Kobzar,
"Today, around 6:30 a.m., an enemy strike on an apartment in the Zarichnyi district of our city was recorded."This quote underscores the direct threat to civilian life.
Impact of Attacks on Local Communities
The shelling across Sumy Oblast over the last day impacted various communities. In particular, the Shostka community saw damage to:
- residential buildings
- utility structures
- administrative buildings
- infrastructure objects
In the Shalyhyne and Esman communities, private homes and farm buildings were destroyed. In the Mykolaiv community, private houses, farmsteads, and non-residential premises were damaged. The Sumy community was also hit, resulting in damage to an apartment block and a passenger car.
Furthermore, civilian infrastructure objects were damaged in the Hlukhiv community. Passenger vehicles were damaged in the Bereziv, Znob-Novhorodske, Krasnopillia, Richkivska, and Mykolaiv communities. In the Velyka Pysarivka community, damage was also recorded to farming vehicles. These events illustrate the conflict's ongoing toll on the civilian population of Sumy Oblast.
The situation in Sumy Oblast remains tense due to active military actions by the Russian Federation. Constant shelling leads to significant destruction of infrastructure and housing, endangering the lives and safety of local residents. These developments point to a deteriorating humanitarian situation in the region and the urgent need for measures to protect civilians.
