Russia doubles drone strikes on Ukraine: over 500 unmanned aircraft deployed daily.
Surge in Drone and Loitering Munition Usage
According to UATV: Russian forces have doubled their deployment of loitering munitions and attack drones across Ukraine. According to Vladyslav Voloshyn, approximately 400–450 drones and more than 500 loitering munitions have been recorded each day over the past five days. This marks a significant escalation from the previous daily range of 200 to 250 loitering munitions.
The most intense activity is concentrated in the Prydniprovskyi direction, where around 150 drones are being used per day. On March 14, Russian troops launched 430 drones and 68 missiles, including 13 ballistic missiles. For context, this region has become a focal point for Russia's evolving unmanned warfare tactics, drawing attention from military analysts tracking the conflict's trajectory.
'Recently, the enemy has begun actively employing weapons such as loitering munitions and aerial drones of the 'Molniya' and 'Lancet' types,' said Vladyslav Voloshyn.
Specifically, these drones are most heavily used in the Prydniprovskyi direction, a trend confirmed by the daily count of 150 unmanned aerial vehicles.
Shifts in Combat Tactics
The growing reliance on these weapon systems signals a change in Russian combat tactics, which could reshape the conflict's dynamics in the region. This increase in drone and loitering munition usage reflects Moscow's adaptation to modern battlefield conditions, likely requiring Ukrainian forces to develop new counter-strategies. It may also indicate an intensification of hostilities in Ukraine, particularly along the Prydniprovskyi front, demanding close monitoring by the international community and military experts.
