Russia sentenced film producer Rodnyansky in absentia for 'fakes' about the army.
Producer Alexander Rodnyansky was sentenced to eight and a half years in prison. The court in Moscow found him guilty of distributing anti-war «fakes» about the Russian army due to motives of political hatred. This information is reported by the portal «Mediazona».
The case against Rodnyansky was based on four anti-war publications. The prosecutor demanded 9.5 years of imprisonment for the producer, but Rodnyansky himself refused to assist his lawyer in court proceedings.
Alexander Rodnyansky was born in Kyiv and is a well-known producer associated with the TV company «1+1». For 20 years, he was one of the most influential figures in the Russian film industry. However, after the start of Russian aggression in Ukraine, he left Russia and openly spoke out against the war. In October 2022, Rodnyansky was recognized as a «foreign agent» by the Russian Ministry of Justice.
Recall that the Basmanny District Court of Moscow arrested Alexander Rodnyansky in absentia in the case of spreading «fakes» regarding the Russian army under Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
In November last year, a well-known director, whose name is not disclosed, denounced Rodnyansky to the Russian law enforcement agencies. Rodnyansky, who lived and worked in Russia for a long Time, stated that mass interrogations began in Moscow.
