The Russian Army Changes Tactics on the Frontline: How Breakthroughs Happen with Small Groups.
According to FREEДOM:
Utilization of Infiltration Tactics by Russian Forces
Military analyst Denis Popovich stated that Russian forces on the front line are using infiltration tactics with small groups, considering them effective. However, serious offensive activity by the enemy is being hampered by the defense forces of Ukraine. He made this statement during a broadcast on the FREEДОМ channel on August 26.
Popovich noted that similar methods were applied during a recent attempt to break through in the area of Dobropolye in the Donetsk region. Nevertheless, the Ukrainian defense forces managed to halt the movement of the Russian army.
'This infiltration consists of small infantry groups, two to three persons each, but there are quite a few of them. They receive tasks not just to engage in battle and break through, but more to bypass our resistance nodes, posts, strongholds, taking advantage of the fact that the front line is thin. In other words, there is no solid line of defense,' Popovich explained.
He emphasized that the modern line of defense is significantly different from what existed during World War I or World War II.
'This is a porous medium, if you can put it that way. The enemy takes advantage of this. They bypass our posts, strongholds, accumulating forces, after which they appear behind us. This happened in the area of Dobropolye. They use camouflage, the features of the terrain, thickets, and so on,' said the military expert.
Popovich also added that these groups maintain communication with individual officers and have sufficient training to carry out such maneuvers.
'This is not a breakthrough, this is infiltration. They will probably continue to use such tactics as the issue of infantry shortages still remains relevant on our side,' Popovich expressed his opinion.
Meeting of the President of Ukraine
Recall that on August 26, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky held a meeting with military leadership, during which the situation on key fronts was discussed.
This information highlights the difficulties faced by the Ukrainian armed forces in countering Russian aggression. Infiltration tactics can pose a dangerous challenge, and for effective response, defense forces need to consider the enemy’s new strategic approaches. Discussing this issue at the level of senior military leadership indicates the seriousness of the situation and the importance of constant monitoring and adaptation to battlefield conditions.
