Ukraine Endures Major Air Assault on February 26
According to Novyny.live: On February 26, Russian forces launched a large-scale aerial attack against Ukraine, employing a diverse arsenal of missiles and drones across multiple regions. The assault, which began on the evening of February 25th at 6:00 PM and continued into the night, targeted areas including Kharkiv, the Kyiv region, Mykolaiv, and Zaporizhzhia. This attack is part of a sustained campaign to degrade Ukrainian infrastructure and morale.
The strike was notable for the use of two 3M22 Zircon anti-ship cruise missiles, fired from the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea. The Russian military also launched 11 Iskander-M ballistic missiles and repurposed S-400 anti-aircraft systems from its Bryansk and Rostov regions. Furthermore, 24 Kh-101 cruise missiles were fired from the Vologda region, alongside two Kh-69 guided air-to-surface missiles.
In total, the attack involved 420 one-way attack drones, including models like the Shahed, Gerbera, and Itlamas, with approximately 280 being Shahed-type UAVs. By 10:00 AM on February 26, Ukrainian air defenses reported intercepting or jamming 406 of the incoming threats. Despite these efforts, five ballistic missiles and 46 attack drones struck 32 different locations, with falling debris recorded at 15 additional sites.
Primary Targets of the Assault
The barrage focused on several key areas:
- Kharkiv
- Mykolaiv
- Odesa
- Vinnytsia
- Zaporizhzhia
- Kyiv
- Kryvyi Rih
- Frontline territories in Donetsk and Poltava regions
This extensive aerial operation underscores the continued aggressive posture of the Russian Federation and the severe threat it poses to Ukraine's security.
This assault marks another escalation in the ongoing conflict, demonstrating Russia's capacity to utilize a wide array of weaponry for coordinated air operations. While the high number of intercepted targets highlights the effectiveness of Ukraine's active air defenses, the persistent attacks continue to endanger civilian safety and critical infrastructure across the country.
The situation remains tense, with future developments contingent on the responses from both sides and the international community.
