Russian Forces Target School in Kherson, Damaging Roof and Windows.
School in Kherson Hit by Russian Shelling
According to Novyny.live: On January 18, 2023, Russian military forces shelled an educational institution in Kherson, damaging its roof and shattering its windows. The head of the Kherson City Military Administration, Yaroslav Shanhko, confirmed the attack. This incident is part of a wider pattern of assaults on civilian infrastructure in Ukraine since the full-scale invasion began in February 2022.
The hostile projectile struck the roof of a school in the Dniprovskyi district. This attack occurred against the backdrop of a large-scale assault, during which over 200 Russian drones targeted Ukrainian territory that same night. Although air defense forces managed to destroy most of the targets, impacts and falling debris were still recorded.
Impact on Education
This shelling is part of Russia's ongoing aggression against Ukraine, which has specifically targeted infrastructure and educational facilities. Damage to schools raises serious concerns for the safety of students and teachers and disrupts the educational process in conflict-affected regions. The targeting of schools violates international humanitarian law, which mandates the protection of civilian objects.
Such attacks underscore the critical importance of protecting civilian sites during wartime.
