Assault on the Dovzhenko Film Studio

According to Novyny.live: On June 15, 2026, Russian forces struck the Dovzhenko Film Studio in Kyiv, causing severe damage across the capital. The attack incinerated the costume workshop, which housed the largest costume collection in Ukraine. In total, roughly 100,000 costumes and three million clothing items—representing an immense cultural treasure—were lost.

Fallout from the Attack

Beyond the studio, residential buildings and vehicles were damaged, and the UNESCO World Heritage site, the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra (Monastery of the Caves), also suffered destruction. The assault sparked a fire on the roof of the Dormition Cathedral within the Lavra complex. More than twenty people were injured, underscoring the severity and broad impact of this aggression.

This strike on the Dovzhenko Film Studio marks yet another instance of the armed conflict inflicting harm on Ukraine’s cultural and historical landmarks, as well as on the lives of its citizens.

This incident highlights not only military aggression but also cultural genocide, as the loss of such significant cultural artifacts—like these costumes—has a lasting effect on the identity and heritage of the Ukrainian people.

The attack on the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, a vital religious and cultural hub, demonstrates the scale of destruction that will inevitably shape international perceptions of the conflict in Ukraine and its consequences for global cultural heritage.
