Massive Overnight Drone Attack

According to UATV: On February 27, 2023, Russian forces launched a large-scale assault on Ukraine, deploying 187 attack drones, including models known as 'Shahed', 'Gerbera', and 'Italmas'. Of these, 120 were identified as 'Shahed' drones. Ukrainian air defenses proved highly effective, successfully intercepting and destroying 165 of the hostile unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) by 08:30 that morning. This attack is part of a sustained Russian campaign targeting Ukrainian civilian infrastructure and energy systems.

Despite the high interception rate, 20 of the attack drones managed to strike 14 different locations. This indicates that a portion of the assault force still penetrated the defenses and reached their targets. This overnight barrage followed another massive Russian strike on Ukrainian cities the previous day, February 26. Explosions were reported in the Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Poltava regions, as well as in the cities of Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia.

Civilian Impact

The consequences of these attacks were severe for the civilian population, resulting in more than 25 people wounded and one fatality. The situation remains tense as Ukraine continues to defend against Russian aggression.
