Did the Russians hack 'Reserve+'? The Ministry of Defense explained what happened with the application.
The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine confirmed that pro-Russian fraudulent groups used the former alpha name of the chat-bot of the application "Reserve+" to create a fake bot. However, this did not affect the security of the application and the data of Ukrainians. This is reported by the Ministry of Defense.
This statement was made after the circulation online of statements by cybersecurity expert Konstantin Korsun, who claimed that the chat-bot of the application got out of control due to a possible hack.
According to him, this chat-bot remained in the Telegram messenger on the devices of Ukrainians. And through it, malicious software is spreading, which steals all the information from the devices. Such information allegedly hit a pro-Russian hacker group.
The Ministry of Defense noted that during the launch of "Reserve+" in May, user technical support was carried out through Telegram, but after analyzing the risks of using the messenger, they refused.
The chat-bot was removed from the application, the alpha name of the bot was also deleted. But this created an opportunity for pro-Russian fraudulent groups that used the former alpha name to create a new fake bot.
When the distribution of external files through this fake bot was detected, the Ministry of Defense contacted the company Telegram, which deleted it.
Importantly, this did not affect the security of the "Reserve+" application in any way. All user data is transmitted to the "Oberig" registry exclusively in encrypted form. The "Reserve+" itself does not store any user data.
As reported, from October this year, a recruiting service will be available in the Ministry of Defense application "Reserve+". With this update, current vacancies in the military units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will appear, allowing users to find their future service place faster.
Let us remind you that as of October 14, approximately 21 thousand citizens had approached the centers of the Ukrainian army. During the past week - 804 persons. Of all 20,954 applications, 5,230 people have already become candidates for the Defense Forces. Among them, the most requests came for positions of drivers, staff workers, and UAV operators.
