Ongoing Threat of Russian Propaganda in Hungary, Warns Kyiv-Based Hungarian Community Leader.
Concerns Over Russian Disinformation
According to Espreso.tv: Tibor Tompa, who leads the Hungarian community in Kyiv and the surrounding region, has voiced serious concerns about the persistent influence of Russian propaganda within Hungary. He argues that countering this phenomenon requires stronger action and a push for more pro-European initiatives. Tompa shared his views during the 'European Integration' program on Slawa TV and Espreso, stressing the need to resist Russia's information warfare.
According to Tompa, Russian propaganda remains highly relevant in Hungary today. He pointed out that the Russian embassy in Budapest has effectively become the central command center for Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. Noting that over a million people voted for Orbán, Tompa highlighted how deeply the premier's policies have shaped Hungarian society.
Information Security Challenges
Tompa also observed that many propaganda outlets in Hungary's media landscape are beginning to collapse. While this might signal shifts in the country's media environment, the danger posed by Russian disinformation persists. He emphasized that Russia has intensified its information pressure against Ukraine's European integration—a critical issue for both nations.
“Ukrainian media need to have a much stronger presence in Transcarpathia,” Tibor Tompa stated.
In his view, revitalizing pro-European initiatives is a vital step to counter Russian propaganda and reinforce Ukraine’s European path.
Tompa’s remarks underscore the importance of information security as Russian propaganda continues to exert influence over Hungarian society, potentially harming bilateral relations. Boosting pro-European efforts and expanding Ukrainian media presence in the region could be key to fighting disinformation and strengthening Ukraine’s informational footprint in Transcarpathia.
