Sweden detained the Russian sanctions ship Adler: what was found on board.
According to ТСН: The Swedish authorities detained the Russian cargo ship Adler, which belongs to a company already under international sanctions. Currently, cargo inspection is taking place on board the ship.
Details of the detention
The vessel anchored in Swedish waters near the town of Heganes on the morning of December 20 due to technical problems with its engine. On the night of December 21, a decision was made to inspect the ship.
The inspection was carried out by the Swedish Customs Service with the support of the Coast Guard. It is known that the National Special Forces, police, and prosecution were also involved in the operation. The inspection of the vessel lasted throughout Sunday morning.
Cooperation of the crew
Customs spokesman Martin Heglund reported that boarding the ship went smoothly, and the crew behaved correctly and actively cooperated with the inspectors.
Conflict with international sanctions
The Adler vessel belongs to the Russian company M Leasing LLC, which is subject to US and EU sanctions. The reason for the restrictions was the transportation of North Korean ammunition, which, according to international partners, is used by Russia in the war against Ukraine.
In Sweden, it is emphasized that this incident is part of a series of inspections that EU countries are conducting as part of the fight against Russian hybrid activities and illegal arms trade in European waters.
Current events
Recently, Ukrainian defense forces struck the facilities of the Slavneft-YANOS oil refinery in the Yaroslavl region of the Russian Federation.
On the night of December 12, drones attacked an oil refinery in the Russian city of Yaroslavl, located more than 700 kilometers from the state border with Ukraine.
The detention of the Adler ship underscores the active engagement of EU countries in monitoring international sanctions. An important goal of such actions is to prevent the supply of weapons that could be used in conflicts, particularly in Ukraine. This incident demonstrates the efforts of Sweden and other European countries to combat Russia's aggressive behavior on the international stage.
